Delivery Driver / Tool Hire Driver
Location: Birmingham Area
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 5:00pm
Vehicle: 3.5T Dropside Flatbed Van
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and professional Delivery Driver to join our independent tool hire company.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and collecting a wide range of construction tools, plant and hire equipment from customer premises and construction sites throughout the Birmingham area.
This is a hands-on role that combines driving with the loading, unloading and movement of equipment. Unlike a standard parcel delivery position, our drivers handle a varied range of tools and construction equipment, from small power tools to larger, bulkier and heavier items. The role therefore requires a practical approach and a willingness to undertake regular manual handling throughout the working day.
Deliveries and collections are carried out using a 3.5T dropside flatbed vehicle. Previous UK van driving experience is essential.
As the face of our business, drivers must be professional, courteous and committed to delivering excellent customer service.
Industry experience is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a 3.5T dropside flatbed vehicle.
- Deliver and collect construction tools, plant and hire equipment across the Birmingham area.
- Load, unload and secure equipment for safe transportation.
- Carry out regular manual handling activities using safe lifting and handling techniques.
- Complete daily vehicle checks and ensure loads are transported safely and securely.
- Communicate professionally with customers, site managers and colleagues.
- Accurately complete delivery and collection paperwork.
- Work closely with depot staff to prepare equipment for delivery and process returned items.
- Represent the company professionally at all times.
Skills & Experience Required
- Full UK Driving Licence with no more than 6 live penalty points
- Previous experience driving vans within the UK.
- Good geographical knowledge and ability to plan routes effectively.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual and well organised.
- Ability to carry out the manual handling requirements of the role, including the movement of construction tools and equipment of varying sizes and weights.
- Safety-conscious with a positive, can-do attitude.
Desirable
- Experience within the tool hire, plant hire, construction, builders' merchant or related industries.
- Experience working on or delivering to construction sites.
- Knowledge of construction tools and equipment.
What We're Looking For
This position would suit someone who enjoys an active working day and takes pride in providing excellent customer service. The role is significantly more hands-on than a typical parcel delivery job and involves the safe handling, loading and unloading of a wide variety of construction equipment on a daily basis.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided for the successful candidate.
