We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Buyer to join our Services Department in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop their procurement and supply chain career within a dynamic engineering environment.
The Role
Supporting the Services team, the Assistant Buyer will play a key role in ensuring the timely procurement of materials, components and services required to support customer orders, service activities and operational requirements.
Working closely with suppliers, engineering, stores and internal stakeholders, you will help maintain efficient supply chain operations while ensuring quality, cost and delivery objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise and manage purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
- Source materials, components and services for service and aftermarket activities.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations to ensure best value and delivery performance.
- Monitor supplier order acknowledgements and delivery schedules.
- Expedite orders to ensure critical deadlines are met.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information within company systems.
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve delivery, quality and invoicing issues.
- Support inventory management activities and stock control initiatives.
- Assist with supplier performance monitoring and reporting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal departments.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and quality standards.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement, buying or supply chain support role.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, marine or offshore environment.
- Familiarity with MRP systems.
- Understanding of procurement and supply chain processes.
- Relevant qualification in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration.
- Working knowledge of supplier management and inventory control principles.
