Job Description – Estimator
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with a strong background in civil engineering and groundworks to deliver accurate, commercially robust tenders. The ideal candidate will bring extensive civils experience, with the ability to take ownership of estimates, identify risks, and contribute strategically to tender success.
This role is suited to someone who is looking to progress into a more senior position and grow with the business.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare detailed cost estimates from first principles, including take-offs, labour, plant, and material pricing.
· Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to ensure full scope coverage.
· Obtain, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
· Identify and highlight commercial and technical risks within tenders.
· Assist in the preparation of tender adjudications and submissions.
· Support the development of tender programmes and methodologies.
· Review contract documentation (e.g. JCT / NEC) and flag key risks.
· Produce clear assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications.
· Liaise with operational, commercial, and design teams during the tender process.
· Contribute to value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
Skills & Experience
· Extensive experience in civil engineering and groundworks estimating (essential).
· Proven track record in preparing estimates for infrastructure, drainage, roads, earthworks, or associated civils packages.
· Strong measurement and pricing capability, with attention to detail.
· In-depth understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and site constraints within civils projects.
· Good working knowledge of contract forms such as NEC and JCT, with strong commercial awareness.
· Ability to identify, evaluate, and communicate risks effectively.
· Proficient in estimating software and advanced Excel use.
· Strong organisational and time management skills.

Pay: £50,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
