The opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on Hygiene Manager to lead our hygiene team and maintain excellent standards across our food production site. You will take ownership of cleaning, chemical control, waste, pest control and key hygiene records, working closely with the Technical Manager to support compliance and continuous improvement.
This role would suit an organised, practical manager who can lead from the front, keep accurate records and make sure the site is consistently clean, safe and audit-ready.
What you’ll be doing
· Lead, train and support hygiene operatives, ensuring cleaning schedules are followed and standards continually improve.
· Maintain accurate hygiene and compliance records for relevant regulatory, certification and customer requirements, including the FSA, Environmental Health, Red Tractor and STS Micron.
· Manage cleaning chemicals and the COSHH system, including purchasing and maintaining up-to-date safety information.
· Oversee stock levels, ordering and traceability for packaging and marinades.
· Manage site waste arrangements, including skips and Category 2 and Category 3 bins.
· Take responsibility for site hygiene controls, including drainage, pest control and power-washing systems.
· Work with the contracted pest-control provider to ensure agreed measures are implemented.
· Support microbiological sampling and sample registration.
· Complete equipment calibration, knife-blade checks and foreign-body checks.
· Purchase personal protective clothing for the company and support other reasonable business needs.
What we’re looking for
· Experience in a hygiene, sanitation or cleaning leadership role, ideally within food manufacturing or food production.
· A good working knowledge of food-site hygiene, COSHH and safe chemical handling.
· Confident people-management skills, with the ability to train, organise and motivate a team.
· Strong attention to detail and a reliable approach to records, stock control and traceability.
· A practical, proactive mindset and the flexibility to work an occasional Saturday when required.
Why join us?
You’ll have real ownership of hygiene standards across the site and the opportunity to make a visible difference to food safety, compliance and day-to-day operations.
