We will interview suitable candidates as applications are received, therefore we strongly encourage applying early.To perform a mixture of roles in the provision of a high standard of culinary produce within the Catering Department.
The Chef is responsible to the Site Services Manager, through the Assistant Catering Manager, Front of House Manager, or Chef Supervisor, for:
- Ensuring a consistently high standard of culinary produce—including preparation, cooking, and presentation—consistent with practical economy.
- Maintaining regular, consistent, and professional attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance, alongside adherence to relevant Health & Safety procedures.
- Maintaining the highest standards of hygiene in the preparation and cooking of food.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen equipment and the kitchen areas.
- Supervising the Catering Assistants in the absence of the Chef Supervisor.
- Assisting in serving all meals for College staff and pupils, and for other functions held within the College.
- Conserving energy by extinguishing powered cooking equipment, hot plates, and lights when not required.
- Carrying out such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Site Services Manager.
- Pursuing personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Catering and Hospitality qualification or relevant experience.
- Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience of cooking with a range of different food and cuisines.
- Experience of catering for allergies / dietary requirements.
Personal Attributes:
- Demonstrate high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- The ability to work a busy service and cater for large numbers.
- Ability to create and follow recipes.
- Able to work flexibly, switching between tasks and priorities at short notice and responding to unplanned situations.
- Able to work as part of a team and unsupervised when required.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to understand the relevant Health & Safety procedures.
- Communication skills to deliver polite, courteous, and efficient customer service.
