Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, dedicated Kitchen Porter to join our dynamic back of house hospitality team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of our kitchen facilities, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation and in operating the hotel ware-washing system - dishwashing and pot-wash. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in developing their skills within the food service industry, particularly those with an interest in kitchen, catering, hospitality, or restaurant environments. The role involves supporting chefs and kitchen staff by managing cleaning duties, assisting with basic food preparation, using the dish and glass washers and the washing of pot and pans and kitchen utensils and equipment and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
Responsibilities
- Washing, drying, and storing dishes, utensils, pots, and pans efficiently
- Operating the large dishwasher
- The cleaning of crockery, cutlery and glasses
- Keeping kitchen work surfaces, floors, and equipment clean and sanitised in accordance with health and safety regulations
- Assisting with basic food preparation tasks under supervision, such as peeling vegetables or preparing ingredients
- Supporting the kitchen team during busy service periods to ensure smooth operations
- Undertaking daily and weekly cleaning tasks in accordance with the cleaning schedule
- The sweeping and mopping of floors
- The cleaning and tidying of the rear yard of the hotel and the refuse storage area
- Managing waste disposal and recycling procedures appropriately
- Restocking supplies and ensuring all areas are organised for optimal workflow
- Adhering to all health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
Experience
- Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality setting is desirable but not essential as training will be provided
- The operation of large industrial dhishwasher and ware-washing systems
- Familiarity with food preparation and cooking processes is advantageous
- Experience working in a busy kitchen environment or within culinary roles will be considered a plus
- Good organisational skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills within the hospitality sector
- A food Safety qualification would also be advantageous
