Assistant Head Gardener Opportunity
Private Estate near Bibury, Gloucestershire
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced gardener to join a small team developing and maintaining a large, privately owned garden near Bibury.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who takes pride in hard work, attention to detail and high-quality horticulture.
Working closely with an experienced Head Gardener, and deputising in their absence, you will assist in the maintenance and development of all areas of the gardens, while also supporting the growth and development of other team members.
The gardens are diverse, mature and semi-mature, including two walled gardens — one providing flowers and vegetables for the main house, and the other a walled rose garden surrounded by espaliered fruit trees. The wider gardens also include glasshouses, parterres, formal lawns, parkland, woodland, rose gardens, shrub and herbaceous borders, and hedges.
The role requires:
- 2–5 years’ experience as an Assistant Head Gardener
- Strong plant knowledge
- A keen eye for detail and quality
- Willingness to work in all weathers
- Experience using and maintaining ride-on and pedestrian mowers, strimmers, chainsaws and hedge trimmers
PA1/PA6 knapsack sprayer and chainsaw tickets would be an advantage, but are not essential.
