Banana Moon Bromley is an award-winning nursery looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a caring, family-friendly nursery where we are passionate about providing children with fresh, healthy, nutritious meals every day. You will support our Nursery Chef in preparing homemade meals and snacks, helping to maintain the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness and hygiene.
Job Purpose
To support the Nursery Chef in preparing balanced, healthy, nutritious and appealing meals and snacks for children, following Banana Moon's seasonal menus and recipes. To assist in maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment, ensuring compliance with Environmental Health, Food Safety, Health & Safety and Nursery Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Enhanced DBS disclosure suitable for working with children (or willingness to obtain one).
- Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to complete training).
- Previous experience working within a kitchen, catering or food preparation environment is desirable.
- Experience within an early years setting is advantageous but not essential.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Nursery Chef in preparing and serving fresh meals, snacks and desserts.
- Help prepare ingredients and basic food items following recipes and instructions.
- Wash, peel, chop and prepare fruit and vegetables.
- Assist with baking and preparing homemade snacks and pastries.
- Ensure all food is prepared safely and in accordance with food hygiene regulations.
- Support the preparation of meals for children with allergies, dietary requirements and cultural preferences.
- Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and hygienic kitchen at all times.
- Assist with stock rotation, checking deliveries and storing food correctly.
- Help monitor food temperatures and complete required kitchen records.
- Follow all Food Safety, Health & Safety and COSHH procedures.
- Work closely with the Nursery Chef and nursery management to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
