We're recruiting two Housing Officers to join Council on a temporary basis to cover sickness. This is a full-time hybrid role, requiring at least 50% of time spent on patch and in the office. Flexibility is essential, as officers may be asked to work at different locations across the city at short notice depending on demand.
About the Role
As a Housing Officer, you'll provide efficient, effective, and responsive housing management services across designated areas, ensuring services are delivered in line with council policies and priorities.
What You'll Be Doing
- Tenancy management, estate management, and anti-social behaviour casework
- Recovery of rent arrears and maximisation of rental income
- Tenant consultation, participation, and support referrals to agencies
- Routine tenancy visits, estate inspections, and property upkeep monitoring
- Welfare benefit advice, income maximisation, and debt counselling support
- Preparation of legal notices, reports, witness statements, and court attendance
- Supporting vulnerable tenants, including elderly residents and those requiring adaptations
- Attending residents' meetings, forums, and community events
- Ensuring compliance with health & safety, data protection, and equal opportunities policies
What We're Looking For
We're seeking candidates who are organised, resilient, and confident working in a fast-paced housing environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English
- A relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent housing management experience
- Strong knowledge of tenancy conditions, housing legislation, and council procedures
- Experience in delivering quality customer service and managing change
- Ability to handle confrontational situations with tact and diplomacy
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- IT literacy and report writing ability
- Flexibility to adapt to changing demands and work across multiple locations
