SEND Teaching Assistant, Bourne End

Our client is a warm, nurturing primary special school in Bourne End, supporting around 76 pupils aged 4 to 11 with social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside autism and speech, language and communication needs. The role
This is a hands-on SEND Teaching Assistant role for someone who leads from the front and gets involved the moment a situation calls for it, rather than waiting on the sidelines. Working under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo, you'll provide tailored support to pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping them stay regulated, engaged and ready to learn.
You won't sit back and observe. You'll spot the early signs that a pupil is struggling, step in to de-escalate calmly, and adapt your approach in the moment. You'll deliver targeted interventions with energy and consistency, adapt learning materials as needed, and take genuine ownership of the pupils you support, building trusting relationships with them and playing an active part in helping them access learning and make progress.
About you
· Proactive, resilient and calm under pressure, with the confidence to step in and lead when the moment demands it.
· Genuinely committed to children with SEMH and additional needs, and able to build trust with pupils who may have had difficult experiences of school.
· Patient, consistent and quick to read a situation, treating each child's progress as your own responsibility.
· A relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification and prior SEND experience are desirable, though a positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to roll up your sleeves matter just as much.
