We're looking for an enthusiastic and organised Hair Technician / Trainer to join our team at Peterborough College. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with hands-on experience in the hairdressing industry who would like to play a key role in supporting the next generation of hair and beauty professionals. You'll help maintain excellent standards in our salons and workshops, support practical learning sessions, and ensure our facilities remain safe, clean, and well-organised. No two days are the same, making this a rewarding role for someone who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.
As a Hair Technician / Trainer, you will be responsible for training and providing practical support and assistance to staff and learners on our hair and beauty programmes. Your responsibilities will include:
Help and assist lecturing staff in providing and undertaking practical and vocational learning activities for learners.
Supervise the activities of learners to ensure that Health and Safety regulations are adhered to.
Check, maintain, and undertake minor maintenance or repairs on salon equipment and resources.
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised environment in the workshop and salons.
Maintain stock levels and provide accurate, current inventories of tools, equipment, and materials.
Support staff and students in the safe use of specialist equipment.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations, including COSHH requirements and risk assessments.
Assist in the operation and maintenance of both manual and computerised files and records.
Undertake First Aid duties as and when required.
We're looking for someone who:
Holds a good general level of education, including Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (a Level 2/3 in a relevant subject area or Education & Training is desirable).
Has proven practical experience within the hairdressing industry, using relevant equipment and materials.
Has experience in organizing and maintaining store rooms and salon environments to a high standard.
Enjoys supervising, training, or transferring skills to young people and teenagers of mixed abilities.
Is highly organised, proactive, and possesses excellent planning and administrative skills.
Has strong IT skills (MS Office) and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Displays a flexible, collaborative approach with a professional 'can-do' manner.
