We are a well-established, award-winning company based in Warrington, offering DNA, drug & alcohol, and healthcare testing services to the legal community, members of the public, and companies, both across the UK and internationally.
We are going through an exciting period of growth and have recently launched some new products, so are looking to recruit a Reporting Scientist to expand our Toxicology team.
The role:
Complete routine interpretations and report analysis results from techniques of immunoassay, SLE, LLE, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS), to a legally-defensible standard, within contractual turnaround times, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Write and peer review Expert Reports, Certificates of Analysis and Technical Reports across all market sectors in a timely manner, in accordance with the Quality Management System, GDPR, ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 14001, Lab 51, as well as all relevant departmental procedures, policies, and protocols
- Ensure that the quality and integrity of all toxicological reports released from the laboratory to the customer is maintained
- Respond to customer queries, including the production of technical reports, in an appropriate and timely manner
- Attend court to present evidence, as required
- Process data and check LCMSMS batches
- Train and mentor both new and existing team members, as required
- Keep skills and knowledge up to date and in line with current industry standards and guidelines
- Input into validation planning
- Report quality/environmental non-conformances/incidents and technical problems, or trends towards these, to the relevant manager
- Maintain meticulous record keeping and co-operate with both internal and external audits
- Embed a continuous improvement culture and drive implementation of changes
Requirements:
Essential
- A relevant science degree (e.g. Toxicology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or related discipline)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience reporting and interpreting toxicology casework across a range of matrices
- Experience peer reviewing toxicology reports and associated documentation
- Court experience, presenting toxicological evidence where required
- Strong understanding of analytical techniques used in toxicology, including LC-MS/MS data interpretation
- Experience working within regulated laboratory environments
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and record keeping
- Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines in a busy laboratory environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including responding to technical queries from customers
Desirable
- Experience mentoring or training junior scientists
- Experience working to ISO 17025 and Lab 51 regulations within a toxicology setting
- Experience contributing to method validation or quality improvement initiatives
