We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Technology Manager to join our Machines and Mechatronics Department
Based in Coventry, the Technology Manager (TM) role is focused on leadership of the department technology strategy and on technical leadership of projects.
You’ll be working with Technology Managers, Product Development function & Engineering Manager to lead and execute department’s Technology Strategy and deliver the group capability development Roadmap, ensuring this remains aligned to current & future industrial sector demand.
Your responsibilities will also include

Leading technical projects, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, and is delivered within agreed budgets and timescales.

Leading Technical Governance for project deliverables within the area of expertise, ensuring adherence to and championing MTC best practices.

Supporting and working with department leadership to empower a culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism.

Driving message regarding Health and safety within the team. Show ownership and engagement of Health and Safety to proactively ensure own and colleague’s health (both physical & mental).

Driving engineering excellence and a continuous improvement culture within the department.

Lead engagement with providers, HVMC, academia and events.

Leading by example and demonstrating self-awareness of the ‘shadow you cast’.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a high experienced individual with
-
A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
-
Extensive experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering applications, with specialisation in machines or automation.

Extensive experience in producing, reviewing and approving technical drawings as per standard BS8888 and good understanding of GD&T.

Experience technically leading large programmes of work (>£250k project value) or lead multiple smaller projects concurrently.

Extensive knowledge of materials, relevant directives, regulations and standards, mechanical principles, and manufacturing techniques.

Structured approach to identifying and solving problems .

Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines, budgets and quality expectations, both within a team, or independently.

Experience working where subsequent adherence to associated process and policy is critical to maintain customer confidentiality.

Pragmatic hands-on experience, providing problem solving approach and who is willing to physically participate in completion of work when required.

System design & optimisation.

Able to demonstrate industrial project delivery including, but not restricted to: requirements capture and management, concept generation, detailed design, build and validation ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, awareness of project budget and deliverables.

Ability to communicate to all levels of the business in a professional and courteous manner, to support all parts of the business to run as one MTC to deliver corporate objectives. Can use several different communication tools to ensure what they wish to share as a message is cascaded and understood to effectively lead teams.

Ability to demonstrate the use of coaching and mentoring to support colleagues and transfer knowledge in area of expertise to others, within own department and wider MTC colleagues.

Committed to work collaboratively and network effectively, able to recognise the contribution of others and teamwork with a one MTC mind-set.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
- Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team or multiple teams, with day-to-day line management of Engineers up to Team Lead level, including their development (1-2-1s, appraisals, etc.).

Proven experience of growing and developing a technical theme, implementing effective changes to continually monitor and evaluate group performance and standards.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’.
It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing and, after four years of planning and a 16 month build, the facility opened at Ansty Park in Coventry at the end of 2011.
In December 2011, there were 16 industrial members, 44 staff and just a few key pieces of equipment in the ‘workshop’.
Over the following seven years the MTC’s rapid growth has seen the expansion of our campus with the construction of three more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre and the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing.
Our role has also increased to cover not only R&D but also Training, Advanced Manufacturing Management and Factory Design.
We now have over 700 talented employees working with us.
During this time we have helped hundreds of companies across a range of industries and over 100 of them have become members of the MTC.
