Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Relief Cook to join our team at The Laurels Care Home, Attleborough on a Bank Contract (to cover sickness and annual leave). The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals in accordance with established standards, ensuring high-quality food service for our clients. This role offers an opportunity to utilise culinary skills within a supportive environment, contributing to the smooth operation of our kitchen services. Flexibility is essential, as this position involves covering shifts as needed across various times.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals in line with menu specifications and dietary requirements
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Assist in meal planning and portion control to minimise waste and optimise efficiency
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces
- Support other kitchen staff during busy periods or when covering shifts
- Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Assist with inventory management by checking stock levels and reporting shortages as well as ordering.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally within a care home setting or similar
- Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in kitchen hygiene
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- Previous experience serving or working in a care home environment is desirable
- Ability to work flexibly across different shifts as required, including evenings or weekends if necessary
