About the Role
Our client is an established and growing engineering business specialising in MEP and building services design across sectors including commercial, logistics, education, retail, leisure, hotel, residential and refurbishment.
They are looking for an experienced MEP Design Operations Manager, ideally with a mechanical bias, to take responsibility for the operational performance and delivery of the business.
This is a key leadership role covering people, project delivery, quality, commercial performance, processes and client relationships, with the opportunity to play a major part in the company's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day operations across MEP design and consultancy projects.
- Manage resource planning, workload forecasting and project allocation.
- Oversee delivery of RIBA Stage 2–6 design packages, audits and technical reviews.
- Monitor project progress, deadlines, quality and deliverables.
- Lead QA/QC processes and ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and BSR requirements.
- Monitor project profitability, utilisation, WIP, fees and resource efficiency.
- Support fee proposals, scope definition and commercial negotiations.
- Lead, mentor and develop mechanical, electrical and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management.
- Act as a senior point of contact for key clients, contractors and project partners.
- Attend client meetings, presentations and business development opportunities.
- Improve operational processes, digital systems, BIM/CAD workflows and document control.
- Drive standardisation, efficiency and continuous improvement across the business.
Skills & Experience
- Strong background in MEP / building services design, ideally with a mechanical bias.
- Proven experience in operations or senior project management within an engineering consultancy or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, BSR and industry standards.
- Experience delivering CAT A/B/C, refurbishment and new-build projects.
- Strong commercial awareness, including fees, margins, utilisation, forecasting and WIP.
- Excellent leadership, communication and client-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities and operational challenges.
- Chartered status or equivalent technical experience is desirable.
- Experience with BIM, CAD and digital engineering systems would be advantageous.
