Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) specialising in Mathematics to support students within a Secondary Autism educational setting. The successful candidate will work closely with ARP Lead to deliver tailored learning support for autistic students. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of autistic children by fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. The HLTA will be responsible for delivering Maths to small groups of 8-10 children , mentoring students, and providing personalised support to help maximise their academic potential.
Duties
- Support the delivery of mathematics lessons under the guidance of Maths Lead Teachers, ensuring all students are engaged and supported effectively.
- Provide specialised assistance to students with autism, adapting teaching methods as necessary to meet individual needs.
- Tutor and mentor pupils who require additional help in mathematics, fostering confidence and a positive attitude towards learning.
- Assist in the planning and preparation of educational activities and resources tailored to diverse learning requirements.
- Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to individual education plans.
- Support students during classroom activities, breaks, and specialised programmes to promote social inclusion and development.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and stimulating classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Develop strong communication links with pupils, parents, and staff to ensure consistent support for student progress.
Requirements
- Experience working with children in an educational or tutoring capacity is essential.
- Prior experience supporting individuals with autism is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education principles and inclusive teaching practices is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learner needs.
- Passion for supporting children's development and fostering a positive learning environment.
- Relevant qualifications or training related to special education or mentoring are preferred but not mandatory.
