Job Purpose
Our Little Angelz Private Nursery is seeking an experienced, reliable, and motivated Kitchen Assistant to support the preparation and service of healthy, nutritious meals for children attending the nursery. The successful candidate will work alongside the Nursery Cook to ensure the kitchen is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety, while complying with all relevant legislation and nursery policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and serving of nutritious meals for children in accordance with planned menus.
- Support the Nursery Cook in ensuring meals meet children's dietary requirements, allergies, cultural preferences, and nutritional needs.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, food preparation areas, equipment, and storage areas.
- Wash and sanitise crockery, utensils, kitchen equipment, and work surfaces.
- Ensure food is stored, prepared, and handled safely in accordance with current food hygiene regulations.
- Receive, check, and store food deliveries appropriately, ensuring stock is rotated using the FIFO (First In, First Out) principle.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or concerns to the Nursery Manager or Nursery Cook.
- Dispose of food and kitchen waste safely and in line with environmental health requirements.
- Comply with all Health and Safety, Food Safety, COSHH, and Infection Prevention and Control procedures.
- Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or food safety concerns immediately.
- Work collaboratively with the nursery team to support the smooth running of the setting.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the Nursery Manager in line with the role.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, nursery, school, or catering environment.
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards.
- Good communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience working within an early years or childcare setting.
- Knowledge of children's nutritional requirements and food allergies.
Training and Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
- Have previous kitchen or catering experience.
- Hold a Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering or be willing to obtain this qualification.
- Complete all mandatory training required by Our Little Angelz Private Nursery, including:
- Food Hygiene
- Safeguarding Children
- Health and Safety
- Infection Prevention and Control
- Allergy Awareness
- Fire Safety
- Manual Handling
- Any additional training identified by the nursery.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and refresher training as required.
