Job Title: Finance Officer
Reports to: Finance Manager
Job Type: Full Time in Purley-on-Thames (37 hours per week, Monday - Friday), permanent
Responsibilities
- To actively promote and uphold the Trust’s values, aims and policies and procedures
- Build positive relationships with colleagues, the people we support, their families and the organisations with whom we work in partnership
- Enter day-to-day financial transactions, including invoice processing, payment runs, journal preparation, and reconciliations.
- Maintain aged debtor and creditor records and reconcile balance sheet accounts (prepayments, accruals, PAYE, NIC, payroll control).
- Review monthly management accounts and provide analysis for the Finance Manager, drawing attention to key variances
- Lead the preparation of monthly payroll data, for submission to our payroll partner
- Annual update of financial software with budget figures
- Identify process improvements by enhancing financial systems and implementing automation to improve efficiency
- Oversight and day-to-day supervision of two finance staff (no formal line management responsibility)
The Trust will be moving to new financial software in the 2026–27 financial year, and this role will play an important part in making this transition a success. You’ll help us review and refine our current data and processes so the new system is introduced smoothly and confidently. Experience of supporting a similar change would be helpful, though not expected.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills are crucial. You must be able to communicate with a wide range of people in a friendly, helpful and professional manner
- Be able to work flexibly as part of a team that provides essential support to the Trust and the people we support
- A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
- Excellent MS Office skills – particularly Excel. You must be confident in using advanced Excel functions and able to perform multi-workbook data mapping using VLOOKUPs
- Experience in preparation of management accounts, and prior involvement in a budgeting and planning process, are desirable
- Experience of input into day-to-day finance operations including AR, AP is essential
- Experience of input into payroll process, is desirable
- Sound knowledge of financial principles
- High levels of integrity and a professional approach to your work
- This role would be suitable for someone working towards a professional accounting qualification, or QBE
Pay: £32,714.00-£36,185.00 per year
