Front of House Staff – Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, professional and experienced Front of House Team Member to join our vibrant hospitality team.
The successful candidate will play an important role in delivering an exceptional experience for our guests, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere while providing consistently high standards of food and drink service.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about hospitality, customer service and working as part of a busy team. Due to the responsibilities of this position, previous bar experience is essential, along with experience in taking responsibility for the premises as a key holder.
The ideal candidate will be confident, reliable, hardworking and able to take initiative, with a positive “can-do” attitude and strong work ethic.
A full UK driving licence is required for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests warmly upon arrival and ensure they receive a welcoming and professional experience.
- Manage reservations and assist with seating guests efficiently.
- Take food and drink orders accurately and confidently.
- Serve food and beverages in a professional, friendly and timely manner.
- Provide excellent customer service and respond promptly to guests’ needs and requests.
- Handle payments accurately using the point-of-sale system.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the front-of-house areas, including tables, counters, service stations and bar areas.
- Assist with coffee and barista duties where required, preparing coffees and speciality drinks to a high standard.
- Work closely with the kitchen and wider front-of-house team to ensure smooth and efficient service during busy periods.
- Assist with food preparation tasks where required, while maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety standards.
- Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Be proactive in identifying tasks that need completing and supporting colleagues during service.
- Be a quick learner with excellent teamwork skills, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
Bar & Cellar Management
As part of this role, the successful candidate will be expected to have previous bar experience and be confident in assisting with the day-to-day management and organisation of the bar and cellar.
Responsibilities may include:
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the bar and cellar.
- Monitoring stock levels and ensuring the bar is appropriately stocked for service.
- Rotating stock correctly and checking dates where applicable.
- Receiving and checking deliveries.
- Ensuring beer, cider and other drinks are stored correctly.
- Assisting with changing barrels and kegs safely and correctly.
- Monitoring the quality and condition of draught products and reporting any issues promptly.
- Ensuring cellar equipment is kept clean, organised and in good working order.
- Assisting with regular stock checks and communicating low stock levels to management.
- Helping to minimise wastage through good stock control and correct product rotation.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety throughout the cellar.
- Following correct procedures for cellar safety, including the safe handling and storage of stock.
- Taking pride in maintaining a well-organised, efficient and professional bar and cellar operation.
Key Holder Responsibilities
Due to the level of responsibility within this role, previous experience as a key holder or senior member of staff is highly desirable.
The successful candidate must be trustworthy, responsible and confident in taking responsibility for the premises when required.
Key holder responsibilities may include:
- Opening and/or closing the premises when required.
- Ensuring the premises are secured correctly at the end of service.
- Checking that all doors, windows and access points are locked and secure.
- Ensuring relevant equipment, lighting and appliances are switched off safely where required.
- Completing end-of-night security and closing checks.
- Being responsible for securely locking and securing the premises.
- Acting responsibly and professionally when entrusted with keys and access to the business.
- Following company procedures for opening and closing the premises.
- Reporting any maintenance, security or operational issues to management promptly.
Cashing Up & End-of-Service Responsibilities
Previous experience in cashing up after service is highly desirable.
Responsibilities may include:
- Completing end-of-service cashing up procedures accurately.
- Handling cash and card payments responsibly.
- Checking and balancing tills.
- Ensuring payment records are completed accurately.
- Following company procedures for the secure storage of cash.
- Reporting any discrepancies or issues to management.
- Completing relevant end-of-night duties before securing the premises.
Experience & Skills Required
- Previous bar experience is essential.
- Previous experience in catering, serving or hospitality is highly desirable.
- Previous experience as a key holder or in a senior position within hospitality is advantageous.
- Experience of cashing up and end-of-service procedures is highly desirable.
- Experience within a restaurant, pub or similar hospitality environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of cellar management and bar operations would be advantageous.
- Barista experience or familiarity with coffee preparation is a plus.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and excellent customer service practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to confidently engage with guests from a variety of backgrounds.
- The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive approach to work with the ability to use initiative.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and genuine passion for hospitality.
- A full UK driving licence is required.
