We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Level 3 Early Years Educator to join our team at the start of the September term. Our setting is rooted in outdoor play and learning, with Forest School principles guiding everything we do. A love for the outdoors is essential, as much of our daily activities are conducted outside. Our thoughtfully planned curriculum seamlessly integrates outdoor and nature-based learning activities with the EYFS. Recognising the profound impact of the natural environment on children’s physical health and overall well-being, we prioritise activities that foster environmental awareness. From cooking by the campfire, tree climbing, risky play, tool use, exploring local flora and fauna and engaging in gardening projects. We encourage children to build meaningful connections with the world around them.
We place a strong emphasis on developing social skills such as cooperation and empathy, aiming to create a supportive, inclusive community where every child feels valued and understood. Building strong partnerships with parents and guardians is central to our approach, with regular updates on each child’s progress and achievements. Our commitment is to provide a safe, welcoming, and accessible environment that celebrates diversity and fosters growth.
Our ethos is centred on supporting each child's holistic development through play-based learning. With a high staff-to-child ratio, the ideal candidate will have a solid background in early childhood education, a genuine passion for outdoor learning, and a love for working with young children.
While a Forest School qualification is desirable, it is not essential.
This role involves creating a nurturing environment that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development. You will play a vital role in supporting children’s learning through daily activities and play, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Our commitment to outdoor learning encourages resilience, creativity, and a strong sense of community among children, parents, and staff.
Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging indoor and outdoor activities that support children’s holistic development through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.
- Observe, assess, and document individual children’s progress and interests to tailor activities accordingly.
- Understand the role of a key person and offer support to children and their families.
- Manage daily routines, ensuring smooth transitions and consistency.
- Maintain a safe and stimulating environment, conducting regular risk assessments and adhering to healthy and safety procedures.
- Foster independence, confidence, and resilience through planned activities.
- Promote positive social interactions and respectful communication through modelling and guided activities.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents to support each child's development and well-being.
- Uphold high standards of hygiene and safety during all activities, ensuring resources and equipment are well-maintained.
- Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of activities, adapting plans to meet the evolving needs of children.
- Support children’s emotional well-being by providing a nurturing, inclusive environment.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
- Assist with projects and special events as needed.
- Uphold and promote the setting’s ethos, policies, including safeguarding and equality.
Requirements
- Recognised Level 3 qualification in Early Childhood Education or Childcare.
- Proven experience working with children in a nursery or educational setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- In-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- Passion for fostering children’s development through play-based learning.
- Ability to plan and deliver age-appropriate, engaging activities.
- Knowledge of child development theories and practices.
- Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure children’s safety.
- A genuine love for the outdoors and outdoor learning.
- Resilience and adaptability, with a positive attitude towards outdoor play in all weather conditions.
- Commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and nurturing learning environments.
