This role offers a starting salary within Nacro’s pay structure of £46,150 with expected progression to £47,535 within the first year, subject to meeting clear criteria and performance standards, with further pay progression available in the future. We're looking for a Financial Accountant to lead our Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions while delivering high-quality financial reporting and maintaining robust financial controls across the organisation.

About the role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll lead and develop two key operational finance teams, improving processes, strengthening financial controls and helping shape a modern, customer-focused finance service that supports colleagues across the organisation.
What you'll be doing
As a Financial Accountant and Service Leader, you'll take ownership of a broad range of financial accounting and operational finance activities, including:
- Leading the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and in line with organisational policies.
- Managing and reviewing reconciliations, journals, balance sheet controls and month-end and year-end close activities.
- Preparing accurate financial reports and supporting the production of statutory accounts and external audit requirements.
- Supporting VAT compliance, cash flow monitoring and banking activities.
- Developing and strengthening financial controls, processes and procedures to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance systems, reporting and ways of working.
- Providing direct line management, coaching and development to the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Team Leaders, creating a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
- Building strong relationships with budget holders and colleagues across the organisation, providing financial guidance and responding to queries in a professional and customer-focused manner.
- Working closely with senior finance colleagues to support the delivery of Nacro's financial strategy and objectives.
You'll be someone who
- Is fully or part qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA or equivalent).
- Has experience working in a Financial Accountant role within a large, complex organisation.
- Has managed Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable functions and understands the importance of strong financial controls.
- Has experience of month-end and year-end reporting, reconciliations, journals, VAT and statutory accounting requirements.
- Has previous experience leading or developing finance teams.
- Is highly organised, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Communicates confidently with stakeholders at all levels and enjoys building positive working relationships.
- Takes a proactive approach to improving financial processes, systems and service delivery.
- Ideally has experience of working with integrated ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle or SAP, and knowledge of the charity sector or Charity SORP (desirable).
