We are seeking a professional, motivated, and compassionate Medical Receptionist to join our busy and friendly GP Surgery on a permanent contract for 25 hours a week.
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing a high-quality reception and administrative service to support the delivery of patient care.
This is a key role within the surgery and requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
You will be comfortable interacting with the public on the telephone and face to face with a professional and friendly approach.
The busy working environment and diverse role presents an opportunity for someone that is eager to learn and work effectively as part of a team. You will have a comprehensive induction with full training for the role.
Working Pattern - 25 hours a week
Wednesday: 8am – 1pm
Thursday: 8am – 6:30pm
Friday: 8am – 6:30pm

Main duties of the job
- Provide a welcoming and professional reception service to patients and visitors.
- Manage appointment bookings, cancellations, and enquiries via telephone, online and in person.
- Process patient requests in accordance with practice protocols.
- Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records using the clinical system.
- Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Liaise with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times in line with GDPR and NHS policies.
- Support the practice team with general administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
- GCSE grade 4 or above in English & Maths
Experience
- Previous experience in a receptionist, customer service, or administrative role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Including telephone and written communication.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure in a busy environment.
- Good IT skills and experience using computerised systems.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection principles.
- Ability to deal tactfully and empathetically with distressed or anxious patients and carers.
- Ability to cope with occasional exposure to frustrated/aggressive patient behaviour.
