Technical Specialist (Anatomy Teaching)
The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) delivers world-leading practical laboratory, clinical and simulation-based teaching across a diverse range of healthcare and biomedical disciplines. To support practical teaching in our anatomy department and dissection room, we are seeking to appoint a full-time Grade 6 Technical Specialist (Anatomy Teaching).
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in anatomy teaching. Working closely with the Senior Technical Specialist (Anatomy Teaching), the postholder will coordinate and manage technical support for anatomy teaching, ensuring that teaching activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard.
The successful candidate must be an experienced technician with strong line management skills and strong technical and theoretical knowledge of anatomy. Awareness of compliance requirements under the 2004 Human Tissue Act and experience of is a necessity.
The postholder will be responsible for ensuring that specialist teaching spaces, equipment and resources are effectively managed, maintained and continually developed.
The postholder will contribute to the introduction of innovative teaching methods, including digitally enhanced learning, while ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and HTA Codes of Practice pertaining to university anatomical teaching. Experience writing risk assessments and other safety documentation is essential.
Working collaboratively with the wider teaching technical structure within the Faculty, the successful candidate will build strong relationships with academic and professional services colleagues, contributing to the development of a flexible and agile technical service that supports an outstanding student experience. They will also contribute to strategic planning for teaching spaces, equipment, sustainability initiatives and service improvement, ensuring that technical services continue to evolve to meet the needs of a world-leading university.
This role would suit an experienced technical professional with a strong background in the line management of technical staff and suitable experience working within a closely related scientific, clinical, laboratory or teaching environment. The ability to work alongside human cadavers is a necessity.
With previous experience of supporting clinical, laboratory or simulation-based technical activities, applicants should have experience of leading or developing staff, managing specialist facilities and equipment, and providing expert technical advice in a customer-focused setting. Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, together with a commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and collaborative working, are essential.
