Apprentice Vehicle Technician (Diagnostic Pathway)
Athersmith Motor Services | Ulverston, Cumbria
This isn't just an apprenticeship. It's the start of your career.
If you're passionate about cars, enjoy solving problems and want to work with the latest vehicle technology, we'd love to hear from you.
At Athersmith Motor Services, we're looking for the next generation of automotive technicians. As our business continues to grow, including our move into a brand-new 14-bay workshop at the end of 2026, we're investing in young people who want to build a long-term career in the motor industry.
This isn't about making tea or sweeping the workshop. From day one, you'll be learning alongside experienced technicians, working on real vehicles and developing the skills needed to become a highly qualified Vehicle Technician, with a clear pathway into advanced diagnostics as your experience grows.
About Athersmith Motor Services
Based in Ulverston, we look after customers from across Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal and the South Lakes.
We're proud to have over 350 five-star Google reviews and a reputation for fixing the vehicles that many other garages can't.
Using genuine manufacturer diagnostic equipment and specialist tools, we carry out everything from routine servicing and MOT preparation to advanced diagnostics, engine repairs, hybrid and electric vehicle repairs, software updates and manufacturer-level programming.
No two days are ever the same.
Your Apprenticeship
You'll complete a fully funded 3-year apprenticeship in partnership with Kendal College, combining classroom learning with hands-on workshop experience.
Every week you'll be working alongside experienced technicians, learning how to service, maintain, diagnose and repair modern vehicles using the latest equipment and manufacturer information.
By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have nationally recognised qualifications, valuable real-world experience and the skills to become a fully qualified Vehicle Technician.
From there, we'll continue investing in your development, helping you progress into advanced diagnostics, manufacturer systems and specialist vehicle repair as your experience grows.
Our aim isn't simply to train an apprentice.
Our aim is to develop the next long-term member of the AMS team.
Why Join AMS?
Developing young technicians is something we're passionate about.
Our current apprentice has successfully completed Level 2 and is now progressing onto Level 3, becoming an increasingly valuable member of our team.
As our business grows, we're now looking for another apprentice to begin that same journey.
By the time you've completed your apprenticeship, we'll have moved into our new 14-bay workshop, giving you the opportunity to continue your career in one of the most modern independent workshops in Cumbria.
