Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, analysing, and improving mechanical systems and components through detailed design and system integration. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, utilising advanced CAD tools and simulation software to deliver reliable and efficient solutions. The position is paid, including internship opportunities, and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and system optimisation.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed mechanical designs using SolidWorks and CAD software, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify issues within existing mechanical systems and propose effective solutions.
- Create and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) annotations for manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Utilise MATLAB, Simulink, and LabVIEW for system modelling, simulation, and control system development.
- Design and analyse system components with a focus on reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems with electrical controls such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Support system design activities by preparing technical documentation, specifications, and test procedures.
- Assist in prototype testing, data collection, and performance optimisation of mechanical systems.
Requirements
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering with a strong understanding of mechanical principles and system design.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks and general schematics creation.
- Knowledge of GD&T standards for precision manufacturing.
- Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW, and other simulation tools for system modelling and control development.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for automation integration.
- Strong analytical skills including root cause analysis to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
- Good understanding of mechanical knowledge related to component selection, material properties, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics accurately.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This role offers an engaging environment where innovation is encouraged, providing opportunities for professional growth within a dynamic team dedicated to engineering excellence.
