Support Worker – Community Transition Service
Location: Nelson Street, Belfast (with travel)
Salary: £25,394.88 per year
Hours: 35 hours per week – varied shifts, including evenings and weekends
Contract: Fixed term until December 2028, with potential extension subject to funding
About the Role
Our client is looking for a compassionate, confident and reliable Support Worker to join their Community Transition Service, an innovative service supporting women leaving prison to successfully reintegrate into their communities.
The service provides practical and emotional support across a range of areas, including housing, rebuilding social networks, accessing education and connecting with community services. With wraparound support available, the aim is to help women develop stability, independence and positive connections within their communities.
As a Support Worker, you will play an important role in providing a safe, supportive and responsive environment for service users. You will respond to day-to-day challenges, offer emotional support and ensure women can access the help they need, particularly during evening and night-time hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical and emotional support to women transitioning from prison into housing and the community
- Build positive and professional relationships with service users, promoting independence and empowerment
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, emotional distress and housing-related difficulties
- Address neighbourhood and accommodation concerns while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of service users
- Carry out regular wellbeing checks and ensure accommodation remains safe and secure
- Identify and report safeguarding, risk or health & safety concerns in line with organisational procedures
- Complete accurate incident reports, wellbeing records and other required documentation
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements
- Participate in case handovers, team meetings and training sessions
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and relevant statutory and voluntary services
- Follow our client’s policies and procedures to provide a consistent and professional service
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A Level 2 qualification in a social care-related field, such as an NVQ or equivalent
- At least 1 year of paid experience working with vulnerable individuals, ideally within housing, community outreach or a support environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting and professional relationships
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in challenging or emergency situations
- Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to work independently when required
- A good understanding of homelessness, housing issues and community integration
- An understanding of safeguarding, risk management and Health & Safety
- Awareness of statutory and voluntary services available to vulnerable individuals
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends
- A commitment to treating service users with dignity, respect and compassion
- A full driving licence and access to a car
Experience in crisis intervention and providing emotional support to individuals in distress would be advantageous.
