Job Overview
Reporting to the Head of Production and Sourcing, the Sourcing & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading the organisation’s global sourcing activities while ensuring full compliance with ethical, regulatory and governance standards across the supplier base.
The role combines commercial sourcing leadership with robust compliance and risk management, covering supplier selection, negotiation, performance management and long‑term relationship development across multiple product categories. The postholder ensures suppliers deliver cost‑effective, high‑quality and resilient solutions aligned to business objectives, margin targets and brand values.
The role also has accountability for managing sourcing and compliance specialists, working to demanding deadlines, and requires regular international travel to support supplier engagement, audits and performance reviews.
Job Purpose
To develop and deliver a global sourcing strategy that secures competitive, reliable and innovative supply while safeguarding the business through strong ethical, regulatory and compliance governance. The role exists to ensure suppliers meet commercial, quality and sustainability expectations, mitigate supply chain risk, and support profitable growth through responsible sourcing and effective supplier management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Global Sourcing Strategy & Execution:
- In collaboration with the Head of Production and Sourcing, help define and implement the end‑to‑end sourcing strategy aligned to business growth, margin, quality and sustainability targets.
- Identify, evaluate, negotiate and onboard global suppliers and manufacturing partners across multiple product categories.
- Develop a global network of preferred, cost‑competitive suppliers within established and emerging low‑cost manufacturing regions.
- Maintain awareness of market trends and conditions that may impact sourcing strategy or cost.
- Collaborate with supplier executive leadership to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and delivery expectations.
Commercial Negotiation & Cost Management:
- Lead supplier cost negotiations, contract agreements and long‑term commercial partnerships.
- Identify and implement cost‑reduction initiatives across all categories.
- Conduct cost analysis and benchmarking to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Drive supplier innovation and continuous process improvement to support cost reduction and margin optimisation.
Supplier Performance & Relationship Management:
- Drive supplier performance management across quality, cost, delivery, innovation and service.
- Monitor, analyse and evaluate supplier performance against agreed targets on a regular basis.
- Ensure supplier performance supports business requirements and maximises gross profit.
- Build and enhance strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and translate their requirements into effective sourcing strategies.
Supply Chain Risk Management:
- Mitigate supply chain risk through supplier diversification, contingency planning and resilience strategies.
- Identify, assess and manage sourcing‑related risks that may impact delivery, cost or continuity of supply.
- Take proactive action where supplier or market risks are identified.
Compliance, Governance & Ethical Sourcing:
- Own and maintain supplier compliance frameworks covering:
- Ethical sourcing and modern slavery requirements
- Environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards
- Product safety, quality and regulatory compliance
- Ensure adherence to all relevant regional and international regulations, including UK and applicable global market requirements.
- Develop, implement and audit supplier codes of conduct and compliance programmes.
- Lead supplier audits, corrective action plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead root cause investigations and remediation activities where compliance standards are not achieved.
Team Leadership & Delivery:
- Manage and support a team of Sourcing and Compliance specialists working to demanding deadlines.
- Provide clear direction, prioritisation and oversight to ensure objectives are met.
- Foster collaboration, accountability and high performance within the team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Strong commercial negotiation skills, with the ability to secure cost‑effective and sustainable supplier agreements.
- Significant experience in senior sourcing, procurement or supply chain leadership, ideally within a manufacturing or product‑led environment.
- Proven experience managing supplier compliance frameworks, including audits, governance standards and corrective action management.
- In‑depth knowledge of garment and fabric supplier processes and capabilities, enabling informed sourcing and compliance decisions.
- Strong understanding of materials, commodities and manufacturing costs across multiple markets and regions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at Executive level.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to analyse data and present clear commercial insights.
