The Opportunity:
We are looking for a current University of Edinburgh student to work with the Library Academic Support Team as a Systematic Review Tutor, to provide advice on literature searching to students and researchers carrying out their own systematic reviews. As a Systematic Review Tutor, you will be working with librarians to answer queries about systematic review search strategies and assist with tutorials and self-guided materials.
The Academic Support Librarians (ASLs) in the section provide high-level professional support to staff and students for all matters relating to library services. This post will report into this team, and the postholder will work closely with ASLs to who support systematic reviews in various subject areas.

What the job involves:
- Feedback on literature search plans.
- Feedback on literature database search histories.
- Support and tutorials for building searches.
- Support and tutorials for using EndNote and Covidence for systematic reviews.
Reviewing or developing self-guided materials for students.

A bit about you:
Essential:
- A current University of Edinburgh student (this post is designated for the purposes of student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment).
- Understanding and experience of applying systematic review principles and methods.
- Familiarity with creating complex searches on various literature database platforms.
- Familiarity with EndNote or other bibliographic management software.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide variety of users from undergraduate students through to academic staff.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly to a non-technical audience;
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills. Able to work alone, collaboratively, and as part of a team.

- Experience of using Covidence.
Experience of tutoring or mentoring students.

The position is part time and fixed term: 7 hours per week from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027. We are able to be flexible on the working days with this post and will work with the right candidate to ensure work can be carried out around the student’s academic timetable.

- 15 hours for undergraduate students (up to 35 hours during vacation)
- 15 hours for postgraduate taught students (all year round)
