About Modular Systems
Modular Systems Ltd is a growing UK manufacturer specialising in offsite manufactured solutions for the construction sector.
As we continue to expand, secure major contracts and strengthen our management structure, we are looking to appoint an experienced and commercially focused Procurement Manager to take ownership of purchasing and supplier management across the business.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident negotiating with suppliers, controlling purchasing activity and, importantly, identifying and delivering measurable cost savings.
The Role
The Procurement Manager will take responsibility for the effective procurement of materials, products and services required across the business.
You will work closely with Production, Operations, Planning, Finance and Project teams to ensure the right materials are purchased at the right price, quality and time.
A major focus of the position will be developing stronger commercial relationships with suppliers, negotiating improved terms and identifying opportunities to reduce purchasing costs without compromising quality, availability or service.
This is not simply a purchase-order processing position. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of procurement, challenge existing costs and actively improve the commercial performance of our supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day purchasing requirements across the business.
- Place purchase orders accurately and in accordance with production and project requirements.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, discounts, rebates and commercial terms.
- Proactively identify and deliver measurable cost savings.
- Review existing purchasing arrangements and challenge historic supplier pricing where appropriate.
- Obtain and compare competitive quotations.
- Develop purchasing strategies for key materials and high-spend categories.
- Establish longer-term pricing agreements with strategic suppliers where commercially beneficial.
- Source and evaluate new suppliers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
- Work with Operations and Production to understand upcoming material requirements.
- Ensure orders are placed sufficiently in advance to support production programmes.
- Monitor supplier lead times and availability.
- Identify supply-chain risks and establish alternative sources where appropriate.
- Support the supplier onboarding and approval process.
- Monitor supplier performance against price, quality, delivery and service expectations.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of an approved supplier base.
- Resolve pricing, supply and delivery issues with suppliers.
- Review purchasing data and identify opportunities for consolidation and improved buying power.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
- Work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure appropriate purchasing controls are maintained.
- Produce regular procurement reports covering spend, savings, supplier performance and key risks.
- Support the continued development of procurement procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Cost Reduction & Commercial Improvement
A key measure of success within this position will be the ability to generate genuine and measurable savings for the business.
The successful candidate will be expected to proactively review our existing supply chain and identify opportunities through:
- Supplier negotiations.
- Competitive tendering.
- Alternative sourcing.
- Volume purchasing.
- Consolidation of suppliers.
- Improved payment and commercial terms.
- Framework and fixed-price agreements.
- Product and material alternatives.
- Improved purchasing controls.
- Reduction of unnecessary or duplicated expenditure.
Savings must be achieved without compromising the quality, compliance or availability of the products and materials required by the business.
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially minded, organised and confident taking ownership of procurement.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience within purchasing, buying or procurement.
- Strong supplier negotiation skills.
- A proven ability to achieve purchasing savings.
- Good commercial awareness.
- Experience managing supplier relationships.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- The confidence to challenge pricing and negotiate improved terms.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- The ability to work across multiple departments and priorities.
- Good Microsoft Office skills.
Experience within manufacturing, construction, modular/offsite manufacturing or a similar supply-chain environment would be particularly advantageous.
Experience using Sage or a similar ERP/accounting system would also be beneficial.
What Success Looks Like
The successful Procurement Manager will help us establish a more structured and commercially focused procurement function.
Success will include:
- Materials available when required by Production.
- Improved supplier performance and reliability.
- Competitive and controlled purchasing.
- Reduced supply-chain risk.
- Stronger supplier relationships.
- Clear procurement reporting.
- Improved purchasing processes and controls.
- Documented and measurable cost savings across the business.
Why Join Modular Systems?
This is an exciting opportunity to join Modular Systems at an important stage in our development.
As the business continues to grow, the Procurement Manager will have the opportunity to shape how procurement operates rather than simply inherit an established purchasing function.
You will work closely with the Company's senior management team and have the opportunity to make a visible and measurable contribution to the performance and profitability of the business.
If you are an experienced buyer or procurement professional who enjoys negotiating, improving supplier relationships and finding smarter ways to purchase, we would like to hear from you.
