Group Automotive Accountant Needed

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Group Accountant to join our team in York. The Group Accountant will oversee the day to day financial operations of our 5 dealerships, including preparing monthly management accounts, maintaining accurate ledgers and ensuring timely posting of all income, costs and journal entries.
Responsibilities include preparation of monthly management accounts, submission of manufacturer composites, managing balance sheet reconciliations, overseeing cash flow, banking and banking payment runs, tracking vehicle and parts inventory, performing floor plan reconciliations and ensuring compliance with internal controls, audit requirements (including liaising with auditors when required) and relevant accounting standards.
The role will support department heads with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and operational financial reporting to drive profitability and cost control. The Group Accountant will also supervise the accounts team, streamline processes and collaborate with the wider management team to provide financial insights.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Group Accountant or similar role within an automotive environment, inlcuding preparation of management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and cash flow management.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and dealer management systems (DMS) - Pinewood would be an advantage as well as being proficient in Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications.
- Sound knowledge and experience of UK accounting principles, VAT and regulatory requirements relevant to motor retail operatons.
- Proven ability to analyse financial data, produce clear reports, and communicate insights to non-finance stakeholders to support commercial decision making.
- Experience leading or mentoring finance or accounts teams, with the ability to organise workloads, set priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem solving abilities and a continuous improvement mindset to enhance processes and controls.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach aligned to an automonour, values - driven culture.
- Professional accounting qualifiication (e.g ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or part qualified status or equivalent relevant expeience within a similar role.
- Must be an experienced Dealership Accountant.
