Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, trustworthy and detail-oriented Self-Employed Cleaner to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene standards of our dental practice.
Our preferred working arrangement is Tuesday to Thursday, although we may be able to accommodate 4 or 5 days per week for the right applicant depending on their preferred hours and availability.
Cleaning can be completed either:
- In the evening after the practice closes, or
- Early morning, with all cleaning completed by 9:00 am
Each cleaning session is approximately 1.5 hours.
Pay: £20 per 1.5-hour cleaning session.
For applicants wishing to work additional days, the number of weekly sessions will be agreed in advance.
The practice provides all cleaning products, equipment and PPE required to carry out the work.
The successful applicant will work independently and will be trusted with a practice fob and keys for access. When cleaning in the evening, they will normally be responsible for securing and locking the practice after completing the cleaning session.
Available Cleaning Times
Our usual evening access times are:
- Monday – from 5:00 pm
- Tuesday – from 6:00 pm
- Wednesday – from 5:00 pm
- Thursday – from 5:00 pm
- Friday – from 4:00 pm
Early-morning cleaning may also be arranged, provided the practice is clean and ready before 9:00 am.
Duties
- Perform thorough cleaning of dental surgeries, reception and waiting areas, corridors, toilets, staff areas and kitchen areas in accordance with the practice cleaning schedule
- Clean and disinfect appropriate surfaces and high-touch areas in accordance with the practice's Infection Prevention & Control procedures
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors as required
- Dust and clean accessible surfaces
- Clean and disinfect toilets and washroom areas
- Empty designated waste bins and dispose of waste in accordance with practice procedures
- Replenish soap, paper towels and other consumables where required
- Follow the practice's colour-coded cleaning system to help prevent cross-contamination
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and in accordance with COSHH guidance
- Use the PPE provided by the practice
- Complete the required cleaning checklist after each session
- Report any damage, spillages, hazards, sharps or maintenance concerns promptly
- Keep cleaning equipment and storage areas clean and organised
- Follow practice confidentiality, health and safety and security procedures
- When working evenings, follow the practice closing procedure and ensure the premises are left secure
- Keep practice keys and security fob safe and report any loss or security concern immediately
Please note: Cleaning, decontamination or sterilisation of dental instruments is not part of this role.
Skills & Experience
- Previous professional or commercial cleaning experience
- Healthcare, dental, GP practice, clinic or hospital cleaning experience would be an advantage, but is not essential
- Good understanding of hygiene and the importance of infection prevention within a healthcare environment
- Ability to follow written cleaning schedules and practice procedures
- Strong attention to detail
- Good time-management and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Comfortable taking responsibility for practice access and security
- Able to maintain patient and practice confidentiality
- Willing to complete practice induction covering Infection Prevention & Control, COSHH, PPE, waste management, health and safety, confidentiality and security procedures
Self-Employed Contractor Requirements
The successful applicant will be engaged on a self-employed contractor basis.
We may require:
- Proof of appropriate Public Liability Insurance
- Two satisfactory references
- A Basic DBS check or willingness to obtain one, if required
- Ability to provide invoices for cleaning services
All cleaning chemicals, materials, equipment and PPE will be supplied by the practice.
Working Pattern
Preferred: Tuesday to Thursday
We are also happy to consider applicants looking for 4 or 5 days per week, depending on availability and the needs of the practice.
