Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced joiner to undertake a project involving the repair of period windows, working from a fixed scaffold around a detached Victorian villa. This contract will last approximately 6 to 8 weeks, during which the successful candidate will be responsible for restoring and conserving historic window structures with precision and craftsmanship. The ideal applicant will possess a strong background in traditional carpentry techniques, along with familiarity in working on heritage projects. This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise specialised skills in a unique restoration environment. Experience with the "Repair Care" system would be helpful. All materials supplied to order.
Responsibilities
- Carefully dismantle and remove Victorian windows requiring repair or restoration.
- Assess the condition of existing timber, glazing, and hardware, identifying areas needing replacement or reinforcement.
- Fabricate bespoke components using hand tools and power tools to match original specifications.
- Repair or replace damaged timber elements, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic authenticity.
- Reassemble and install restored windows, ensuring proper fit, operation, and weatherproofing.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to health and safety regulations throughout all phases of work.
Requirements
- Proven experience in traditional carpentry, specialising in heritage or period property restoration.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques relevant to fine joinery.
- Familiarity with other building trades such as plastering, masonry, roofing, plumbing, electrical work, or construction painting is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on craftsmanship and preservation standards.
- Ability to work independently as part of a team within a heritage conservation environment.
- Relevant qualifications in carpentry or joinery recognised within the UK construction industry are preferred.
