Overview
We are recruiting a Registered Manager to lead a 3-bed children's home for young people.
What makes this role different is the level of control you hold. You have the final say on referrals and matching, and if a placement is wrong for the young people already living in the home, that decision stands. You recruit your own team and sit on every interview. You hold the home's budget for activities, maintenance and staff development. Rotas and compliance admin are supported centrally, because a manager should not be spending Sunday night filling shift gaps in a spreadsheet. We hold you accountable for outcomes, so we give you the authority to influence them.
Duties
- Lead the home as Registered Manager under the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, meeting all nine Quality Standards and holding the registration
- Build a culture where young people feel safe enough to tell you when something is wrong, and staff feel safe enough to do the same
- Own safeguarding practice in the home, including allegations, missing from home episodes, CSE and CCE risk, restraint reduction and post-incident review
- Lead, supervise and develop the staff team through formal supervision, appraisal, reflective practice and shift-level coaching
- Oversee care planning, risk assessment, key work and pathway planning, so every young person has a plan that reflects who they actually are rather than a template
- Manage relationships with placing authorities, IROs, social workers, education, CAMHS, police and health colleagues, and advocate hard for young people when systems stall
- Prepare for and lead inspections, and act on Regulation 44 and 45 findings rather than filing them
- Track the outcomes that matter: placement stability, education engagement, incident and restraint trends, and young people's own views
Requirements
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent, or willingness to complete it within two years with full funding from us
- At least two years' experience in a role relevant to the residential care of children within the last five years
- At least one year supervising and managing staff in a care setting
- Working knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards, with the confidence to apply them under pressure rather than quote them
- A track record of holding a home steady through something difficult, whether that is a poor judgement, a safeguarding investigation, a high turnover period or a young person in crisis
- Genuine skill in trauma informed and attachment aware practice, and the ability to teach it to a team rather than simply believe in it
- The nerve to challenge a placing authority, a colleague or us when a decision is not in a young person's interest
- Enhanced DBS and full UK driving licence
Desirable: experience registering a new home or taking one through its first inspection, deprivation of liberty applications, or therapeutic training such as DDP, PACE or Team Teach.
