Role Purpose
The Quality & Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that customer, and company quality requirements are understood, communicated and implemented throughout the business.
Working closely with Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics and Manufacturing, the role will lead quality and compliance activities from contract review through to product delivery. The successful candidate will act as the focal point for customer, supplier, and internal quality matters, ensuring work orders are reviewed and approved prior to manufacture and that all products are delivered in accordance with customer requirements, ISO 9001 / AS9100 standards, and company procedures.
The Quality & Compliance Engineer has authority to prevent the release of a work order to production where customer, quality, inspection, certification, traceability or specification requirements have not been adequately defined, understood or approved.
The Quality & Compliance Engineer will also provide day-to-day management and technical direction of the Quality Technicians.
Responsibilities will include (2 x Quality Technicians)
- Allocate and prioritise inspection activities (Fairs / Final Inspection)
- Manage technician workload and resources.
- Provide technical guidance and support.
- Review inspection requirements and priorities.
- Support training and competency development.
- Identify resource or equipment requirements including calibration of equipment.
- Act as the first escalation point for technician-level quality issues.
- Ensure inspection activities are carried out in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Process / Product Audits.
- Final Inspection.
Contract Review
· Main point of contact for the Quality Requirements within the contract review process.
Work Order & Manufacturing Approval
- Review and approve work orders within QC.
- Ensure all manufacturing and inspection requirements are clearly defined.
- Support production teams in interpreting customer quality requirements.
- Prevent release of work where quality requirements have not been adequately defined.
Product Conformity & Traceability
- Support First Article Inspection activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
- Ensure product traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
- Ensure inspection records are complete and maintained including Final Inspection.
- Review material certificates, process certifications, and Certificates of Conformity (including and RE-SF-104 Process Approval List)
Customer Quality
· Ensure customer-specific requirements are maintained and complied with.
· Investigate customer complaints and non-conformances.
· Coordinate containment activities.
· Lead or support root-cause investigations
Supplier Quality
- Ensure customer-specific requirements are flowed down to external providers.
- Investigate supplier non-conformances.
- Coordinate containment activities.
- Lead or support root-cause investigations
Essential
- Experience within a quality / engineering role in an aerospace, defence, automotive or similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
- Good understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes.
- Good organisational and administrative skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across departments.
- Confidence to challenge requirements and escalate issues appropriately.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of AS9100
- Experience with aerospace customer-specific requirements / contract review.
- Experience with AS9102 / First Article Inspection.
- Experience with 8D.
- Experience in root-cause analysis and problem solving.
- Experience with special-process requirements.
- Experience with supplier quality.
- Experience with customer audits.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems (Mietrak / Sage)
- Formal quality/engineering qualification (Experience level)
