Wetherby Racecourse has an exciting opportunity for an assistant groundsperson to join our team.
Set within 295 acres of Yorkshire countryside, Wetherby Racecourse has the benefit of an iconic backdrop to compliment our exciting race meetings and events. Racing has taken place on the site since 1891, with Wetherby Racecourse now staging some of Jump Racing’s early season highlights, in the Charlie Hall Chase and the Rowland Meyrick Steeplechase on Boxing Day, as well as a small, but competitive, flat racing programme in May / June.
Applications are now being invited for an assistant groundsperson. The successful candidate would join the team to assist in maintaining our quality racing surface all year round and, ideally, would have the following attributes:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work unsupervised and in a team
- Effective time management
- Good work ethic to provide the highest standard of presentation
- A high degree of flexibility and willing to work extra hours if required.
- Experience of maintaining or operating machinery is a distinct advantage
- Hold relevant industry qualifications, particularly NVQ level 2, PA1 & PA2 spraying certificate (desirable but not essential)
- First Aid at Work ((desirable but not essential)
- Possess a full UK driving licence
- Possess knowledge of modern machinery and maintenance
- Take a responsible approach to Health & Safety
- Have a proven track record of previous employment in a similar role

This will be a salaried position based on an a standard 40 hour week, but also includes approximately 175 additional hours* of required overtime to ensure the delivery & operation of each our 19 race fixtures. Additional opportunities might become available for further paid overtime as necessary.
Salary: Competitive for this type of position (subject to candidates experience)
