As an Assistant Project Controller at BES, you will be working from our site in Edinburgh, supporting planning, monitoring and successful delivery of projects across the Nuclear Decommissioning, Construction and Renewable Energy sectors.
Working alongside experienced Project Engineers and Project Managers, you’ll help develop project schedules, monitor progress, analyse project performance and support effective project delivery. You’ll receive training and mentoring while taking on real project responsibilities from day one.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career with some exposure to projects, engineering, planning or commercial environments who is looking to develop a long-term career in project controls and management.

Salary: £35,000.00 - 40,000.00 per annum depending on experience

Hours: Core Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9.00am to 3.00pm, Friday, 9.00am to 1.00pm, hours outside of these core hours can be worked flexibly as long as 40 hours are worked per week.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in developing and maintaining fully resourced project schedules and budgets
· Support project planning, monitoring and reporting activities across multiple projects
· Monitor project performance using key metrics, including exposure to Earned Value Management techniques
· Contribute to schedule updates, identifying potential risks, issues, or conflicts
· Support resource scheduling techniques to support effective planning
· Assist with simple “what-if” analysis to support project decision making
· Participate in project progress and contract review meetings with Clients and senior stakeholders
· Contribute to bid and project mobilisation activities and help to ensure good planning practices are established early
· Assist in the management and coordination of project sub-contractors and supply chain
· Develop an understanding of project governance, security, safety, health, environmental and quality controls and requirements and how this feeds into the responsibilities of a project controller
Required Skills, Experience and Competencies
· A degree in Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Business or another relevant discipline, or equivalent industry experience
· Some experience supporting projects through employment, placements, internships or graduate roles
· Good Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with data
· Experience using Microsoft Project or similar planning software would be advantageous but is not essential and training will be provided
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· A proactive attitude and willingness to learn, with the ability to take ownership of tasks
· Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Desirable Skills, Experience and Competencies
· Knowledge of project planning techniques and project management methodologies
· Awareness of Work Breakdown Structures, Critical Path Analysis or Earned Value Management
· Experience working in engineering, construction, infrastructure or manufacturing
· Knowledge of NEC contracts or project governance principles
Must have right to work in the United Kingdom.
There may be a requirement to undergo Security Clearance (SC) UK Government security vetting for some projects you may work on.
