Grade + Salary: BG 9.18 - £31,537 (full time) - actual pro-rata salary £8,945 per year
Hours: 12 hours per week during school hours, term time only
Fixed term contract from 1st October 2026 - 28th May 2027 (fixed term contract).
Probation period: This role is subject to passing a satisfactory probation period.
Cotham School, a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, wishes to appoint an experienced Foreign Language Assistant.
The successful applicant will have the necessary knowledge, skills and vision to be an exceptional Foreign Language Assistant, fluent in French, who will support the Foreign Language Teachers at Cotham School. You will have timetabled lessons with the Post 16 students in groups of varying sizes, where you will cover the A level language topics studied in class. Where possible, you will also work with Years 10 and 11 language students who are preparing for their GCSE. Support will mostly be with small groups of students for speaking practice or may be in the classroom with all students.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Foreign Language Assistant (French)
Reporting to: Faculty Leader
The post-holder will be responsible for the planning, development and successful delivery of conversation classes within the Curriculum Area. To promote the study of languages amongst students at all levels. This role will be based at Cotham School.
- To develop and deliver teaching and learning to meet student needs effectively and efficiently and thereby raise student participation and achievement.
- Planning and preparation of conversation lessons within the course scheme of work.
- Teaching according to the educational needs of learners assigned to classes, including the setting and the timely marking of work according to the scheme of work, the course assessment plan and working within School Guidelines to maximise learner achievement.
- The monitoring and reporting of learner performance including reporting and follow-up of learner attendance (both on-programme and end of programme review).
- Contribution to Course Development, Liaison in Partner Schools and the Community, and Quality Assurance.
- To aid in exam marking at exam time – ie Christmas and summer.
- To correct any work that has been produced during, or as a follow up to a conversation lessons.
- To conduct individual speaking tests with students if requested to do so.
- To assist the subject teachers in the running of a language activity.
- To assist subject teachers in producing and maintaining classroom displays to reflect the nature of the subject.
- To attend departmental meetings.
- To assist with the preparation of resource material, as indicated by the subject teacher.
- To accompany language teachers on foreign visits and exchanges, as well as cinema and theatre trips if requested.
- To comply with and promote School Health and Safety policies and take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others.
- To understand, comply with and promote the school’s Safeguarding policy and procedures.
- To understand, comply with and promote the school’s Diversity policies and procedures.
- To engage in continuous professional development.
- To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
