Collective Edit Magazine is an independent magazine covering politics, culture, fashion, beauty, lifestyle and everything in between. We’re looking for aspiring journalists and writers who want a platform to develop their voice, experiment with ideas and get their work published.
This is a volunteer, unpaid position. At present, contributors do not receive financial compensation for their work. The role is designed as an opportunity to gain practical journalism experience, build a published portfolio and become part of an independent editorial project.
What you’ll do
As a volunteer journalist, you’ll have the freedom to write about the subjects that genuinely interest you. Depending on your interests, this could include:
- Politics and current affairs
- Culture and society
- Fashion
- Beauty
- Arts and entertainment
- Lifestyle
- Opinion and commentary
- Interviews and profiles
- Investigative or feature writing
- Emerging trends and internet culture
- Or something completely different
We’re also interested in contributors who want to explore multi-format journalism. There may be opportunities to develop video content, interviews, social-first journalism and other forms of multimedia storytelling alongside written work.
Flexible contribution
There is no fixed publishing quota. You decide the pace and extent of your involvement based on your own availability and goals.
That could mean contributing an article every week, once a month, or occasionally when you have a story you want to pursue.
We want contributors to be able to balance Edit Magazine with university, employment, other creative projects and everyday life.

You’ll have the opportunity to take an idea from the initial pitch through the editorial process and, ultimately, to publication.
Who we’re looking for
You do not need to have professional journalism experience to apply. We’re particularly interested in people who are curious, have something to say and want to develop their skills through actually making work.
You might be a journalism or English student, a recent graduate, an aspiring writer, a creative looking to expand into journalism, or simply someone who has always wanted to write but hasn’t had the opportunity to get published.
What matters most is your interest in journalism, your willingness to learn and your enthusiasm for developing ideas.
A note on the position
This is currently a voluntary, unpaid role and contributors should not expect financial compensation for published work. Edit Magazine is an independent project and we are currently unable to offer payment for contributions.
The purpose of the role is to provide aspiring journalists and writers with a genuine platform to publish their work, gain editorial experience and build a body of portfolio work.
There is no requirement to commit to a particular number of articles, and contributors are free to determine how much they participate.
