An historic York estate set within beautifully maintained grounds and gardens, complemented by a collection of holiday cottages. The gardens are central to the character of the estate, and we take pride in maintaining them to a high standard throughout the year.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Part-Time Gardener to support our Head Gardener across the estate’s grounds, gardens, and greenhouses. This is a hands-on, outdoor role suited to someone who takes genuine pride in their work and enjoys the rhythm of seasonal gardening. Working two days a week, you will help keep the grounds looking their best for our residents, guests, and visitors year-round.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting the Head Gardener with day-to-day maintenance of lawns, borders, hedges, and shrubberies
- Planting, pruning, weeding, and mulching in line with the seasonal planting schedule
- Supporting greenhouse care, including propagation, watering, and seasonal planting cycles
- Operating and maintaining garden machinery and hand tools safely (mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers)
- Keeping paths, courtyards, and communal areas tidy and presentable, particularly around the holiday cottages
- Managing green waste, composting, and general grounds tidiness
- Assisting with seasonal projects such as bulb planting, leaf clearance, and border refreshes
- Reporting any equipment faults, plant health concerns, or maintenance issues to the Head Gardener
- Following good health and safety practice at all times when using tools and machinery
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A genuine interest in horticulture and willingness to learn from the Head Gardener
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weathers
- Competent and safe with garden machinery and hand tools
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a small team
- A full UK driving licence is desirable, given the estate's setting

Pay: £13.00-£13.50 per hour
