Overview
As a Registered Nurse within the NHS, you will provide safe, effective, compassionate and person-centred nursing care to patients across a diverse range of clinical needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to high-quality patient outcomes while promoting dignity, equality, respect and patient involvement in care decisions.
You will be expected to practise in accordance with NMC standards, NHS policies and local Trust procedures, maintaining professional accountability and consistently delivering care that reflects the values of the NHS.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing care based on patients’ physical, psychological and social needs.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and clinical condition, recognising and escalating deterioration promptly using appropriate escalation procedures.
- Safely administer medicines in accordance with prescriptions, local policies and NMC requirements, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and confidential nursing records to support continuity and safety of care.
- Work effectively with doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, healthcare assistants and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Communicate effectively with patients and relatives, providing clear information about diagnoses, treatments, medication and discharge planning.
- Promote dignity, privacy, equality, diversity, inclusion and patient choice in all aspects of care.
- Follow NHS infection prevention and control procedures, including hand hygiene and appropriate use of PPE.
- Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate NHS and Trust safeguarding procedures.
- Contribute to discharge planning and health education, supporting patients to understand their treatment and ongoing care needs.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and changes in patients’ conditions while maintaining patient safety.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with relevant NHS information governance requirements.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, incident reporting and risk management.
- Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development, mandatory training, reflection and learning.
- Support students, newly qualified nurses and other colleagues where appropriate, contributing to a positive learning environment.
- Demonstrate the NHS values of working together for patients, respect and dignity, commitment to quality of care, compassion, improving lives, and everyone counts.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Relevant nursing qualification.
- Experience providing safe and effective patient-centred care in a hospital or clinical environment.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and common clinical conditions.
- Competence and understanding of safe medicines management.
- Understanding of infection prevention and control.
- Ability to recognise and appropriately escalate deteriorating patients.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary NHS team.
- Ability to prioritise workload and remain calm and professional in a busy clinical environment.
- Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, equality, diversity and patient dignity.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining NMC professional standards.
Pay: £25,420.00-£42,050.26 per year
