Under the guidance of an Engineer, to professionally and competently represent the Teckentrup/ ABC brand and company. Assist with planned maintenance, repairs and installations as efficiently and as safely as possible within a timely manner. Always with a high level of compliance and commercialised mindset, uplifting jobs and services where appropriate and communicating accurate information back to the office in a concise and clear format.
As the face of the company you will perform your daily duties in professional and friendly manner on sites and ensure you are of smart appearance. Taking pride in your tools and van which must remain fully stocked and in excellent condition at all times. Reporting any defects or requirements as early as possible to avoid any negative effects to your performance and the business.
Trainee Engineers whether Automatic Door, Gates and Barriers, or Industrial Door biased will be expected and encouraged to broaden their knowledge base across all products and must actively draw upon the company’s resources to speed up this process in order to become proficient in all areas.
All trainee engineers are expected to lead by example and be the best in the industry or be continually working towards being the best in the industry. Looking to further their training and abilities at every opportunity wherever possible.
Key Accountabilities
- Safety is your number one priority at all times. Be Safe on customer sites – adhering to all risk and method statements.
- Asset Compliance is of paramount importance – assist lead Engineer to ensure every asset you encounter is fully compliant and if it is not, report it immediately with relevant accurate details and dimensions. Actively seek out non-compliant assets outside of your given work schedule.
- Communication – is key to enable the office to understand what is required out on site. Communicate clearly, accurately and regularly at all times. Updating the office when a job is nearing completion or when you are heading back to the office, allowing next step preparation.
- Professionalism - Represent the company and brand to a “best in industry” standard in professional manner, always dressed in full smart uniform with a fully stocked clean company vehicle at all times.
- PPE - Wear safety footwear at all times and further PPE as necessary when required.
- Accurate Information - Take measurements accurately with a “Measure three times approach” in order to eradicate costly miss-measures.
- Vehicle maintenance – always keep an eye on the engine oil level, tyre tread depth and a note of your next service to stay legal and compliant.
- 24/7 – always help the company as best possible to service its customers out of hours. Trainee Engineers are expected to cover quoted out of hours work regularly as part of there role, plus the emergency call as part of the call out rota.
- Training – Is part of an Trainee Engineer’s growth, and broadening of your product knowledge and safety compliance awareness. Attending all online courses and completing accreditation courses within time frame is expected. You will also be encouraged to train on site wherever possible to fill your skill set gaps.

- Carry out all work to the very highest standard and quality of workmanship, leaving all assets compliant.
- Transportation of goods with care and respect of costs to avoid damage.
- Treat all sites and customers with respect, going above and beyond in all areas where possible to create a lasting impression.
- Communicate site information accurately and concisely with “need to know only” detailed job descriptions to office staff who may not be as knowledgeable. Part numbers, product codes or legend plates is always very helpful.
- Always support co working engineers and office staff with a team player mentality.
Desirable Qualifications
- Ideally an industry specific, Product training - IPAF, Pasma, CSCS.
Experience
- Some experience in a similar role or industry is desirable but not essential.
- Full UK drivers licence.
- Understanding of site safety and door compliance requirements.
- General knowledge of Health & Safety procedures.
