Job Title: Workshop Manager
Hours: Monday- Friday 8am-4:30pm 40hrs (flexible start & finish times)
Basic Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Performance related bonus: Up to £200 per month
The successful candidate will be an experienced Forklift Truck (FLT) Engineer with proven management or supervisory experience and the ability to lead, motivate and develop a workshop team.
This is a hands-on management position, with the successful candidate expected to remain on the tools for approximately 2 hours per day on average, whilst also overseeing the day-to-day running of the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- People Management – Managing, motivating and developing workshop engineers and supporting staff.
- HR Responsibilities – Conducting 1-to-1s, performance reviews and annual appraisals, as well as managing absence, performance issues, training, disciplinary matters and other day-to-day HR requirements.
- Workshop Planning & Scheduling – Allocating jobs, managing workloads, planning holidays and resources, and ensuring work is completed within required timescales.
- PDI Inspections – Carrying out Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) and ensuring equipment meets the required standards before leaving the workshop.
- Technical Support – Supporting engineers with fault finding, diagnostics and technical issues.
- Quality Control – Ensuring repairs, servicing and inspections are completed correctly and to a high standard.
- Health & Safety – Maintaining safe working practices and ensuring workshop procedures meet company and legal requirements.
- Parts & Resources – Coordinating with parts teams to ensure engineers have the correct components, tools and equipment.
- Performance & Productivity – Monitoring workshop efficiency, turnaround times, utilisation and overall output.
- Customer & Service Support – Working closely with the Service Manager and wider business to resolve customer and equipment issues.
- Team Development – Identifying training needs and supporting engineers in developing their technical skills.
- Workshop Operations – Supporting the day-to-day running of the workshop and maintaining high operational standards.
- Pre- and Post-Inspections – Carrying out relevant pre- and post-work inspections to ensure equipment is safe and work has been completed correctly.
What You’ll Need
- Experience as a Forklift Engineer is essential
- Proven management or supervisory experience
- Strong technical knowledge of forklift trucks and associated equipment
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop a workshop team
- Willingness to remain hands-on and support engineers on the tools, averaging around 2 hours per day
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
Your Package
- £40,000–£45,000 basic salary
