Responsibilities
- Perform thorough patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols, including IV infusions and medication management.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to document patient information meticulously and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection, phlebotomy, and basic laboratory testing procedures.
- Assist with medical procedures including suturing, catheterization (urinary and vascular), tube feeding management, wound care, and sterile techniques for infection control.
- Provide patient education on health coaching topics like medication adherence, nutrition, pain management, and post-discharge care planning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across specialties such as cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), ophthalmology (including ophthalmic assessments), geriatrics (memory care and dementia), behavioral health, pediatrics (including neonatal ventilator management), hospice & palliative medicine, trauma medicine (Level I & II trauma centers), ICU/CCU/PICU settings, and occupational health.
- Support triage processes in urgent care or emergency room environments by prioritizing patient needs based on acuity levels.
- Ensure all nursing activities adhere strictly to OSHA standards for aseptic technique and infection control protocols.
Skills
- Proven experience working with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; familiarity with ICD-9/10 coding is a plus.
- Strong clinical skills in critical care environments such as ICU or trauma centers; experience with ventilators and advanced airway management is highly desirable.
- Expertise in specialized areas including dialysis support, hospice & palliative medicine, infectious disease care, long-term care (nursing homes or assisted living), memory/dementia care, pediatric or neonatal units.
- Proficiency in performing invasive procedures like venipuncture, catheter care (urinary or vascular), sterile processing techniques, and ostomy care.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to internal medicine, surgical procedures (including OR experience), obstetrics (family planning), dermatology (dermal fillers), and diagnostic imaging such as sonography or mammography.
- Ability to assess physiological functions through physical examinations and diagnostic evaluation; familiarity with CPT coding for billing purposes is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills for patient assessment discussions; capable of working effectively with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges across diverse age groups including toddlers and infants.
