Weekend Market Stall Sales Assistant

Fatfinger Atelier is a Newcastle-based artisan studio specialising in handcrafted ceramics, traditional Chinese tea ware, jewellery, and creative workshops. We are passionate about sharing the beauty of traditional craftsmanship and introducing Chinese tea culture through carefully selected artisan products.
The Role
We are looking for a friendly, energetic and confident Market Stall Sales Assistant to join our team on weekends.
This is a customer-facing sales role. We are looking for someone who enjoys talking to people, is confident approaching customers, and actively introduces our products rather than waiting for customers to ask questions.
Many of our products have unique stories, traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance. Full product training will be provided, but we are looking for someone who enjoys learning and sharing these stories with customers.
As this is a market stall position, you will also help with setting up the stall before trading begins and packing everything away at the end of the day. The role requires standing for most of the day and assisting with moving stock and display equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and pack down the market stall
- Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Proactively engage with customers and introduce our products
- Explain product features, craftsmanship and the stories behind our ceramics
- Process card and cash payments accurately
- Keep the stall clean, organised and visually appealing throughout the day
- Help maintain stock levels and product displays
- Deliver an excellent customer experience at all times
Skills & QualificationsEssential
- Fluent spoken English with excellent communication skills
- Confident speaking with customers and initiating conversations
- Friendly, enthusiastic and customer-focused
- Proactive with a positive attitude towards sales
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently
- Physically fit and comfortable standing and working for up to 8 hours, including helping with stall setup and pack down
Desirable
- Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese
- Interest in Chinese tea culture, traditional ceramics or artisan crafts
- Previous experience in retail, hospitality, market stalls or face-to-face sales
- Able to drive or have own car.
What We Offer
- Full training on our products and Chinese tea culture
- Friendly and supportive working environment
- Opportunity for additional weekend shifts as the business grows
- Staff discount on selected products
If you enjoy meeting people, have a positive attitude towards sales, and would like to represent a unique artisan brand at some of the North East's most popular markets, we'd love to hear from you.
