Area Cleaning Support Supervisor – Schools
£15.50 per hour | Company Van & Fuel Card | 20 Guaranteed Hours | Term-Time
Location: Trowbridge and surrounding areas
Hours: 20 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday–Friday, 4:00pm–8:00pm
Working Weeks: 40 weeks per year
Contract: Permanent
Anticipated Start Date: Monday 21st September 2026
About the Role
Due to continued growth across our school contracts, we are strengthening our operational support team and are looking to appoint an Area Cleaning Support Supervisor.
This is a hands-on, mobile role supporting our school cleaning teams and acting as the evening link between our on-site cleaners, management and office team.
You’ll travel between school sites, provide absence cover, support cleaners, respond to operational issues and carry out quality, training and compliance activities.
This is not a desk-based or hands-off management position. Cleaning is a core part of the role and you will personally provide absence cover when required.
What Could an Evening Look Like?
No two evenings will necessarily be the same.
You might start your shift expecting to visit several schools for quality checks and welfare visits. If a cleaner is absent, your priorities may change and you could instead be asked to cover their 4-hour cleaning shift.
Another evening could involve supporting a new cleaner through their first shift, showing them the site and helping them understand their job plan, equipment and locking/alarm procedures.
Other duties could include:
- Providing hands-on cleaning absence cover
- Carrying out quality spot checks
- Supporting Cleaners and Senior Cleaners
- Conducting welfare checks and lone-worker check-ins
- Supporting new starter inductions and training
- Conducting straightforward return-to-work meetings when requested
- Delivering toolbox talks
- Carrying out scheduled fire drills
- Delivering cleaning supplies, equipment and clean laundry
- Helping resolve equipment, cleaning, locking or alarm issues
- Completing factual reports following incidents, concerns or workplace behaviour
- Completing digital checklists and records
- Keeping management informed of relevant issues
During periods of higher absence, you may spend your entire shift providing cleaning cover.
During quieter periods, you’ll complete planned quality, training, compliance and support activities.
Our Eyes and Ears Across Our Sites
Our management team cannot physically be at every school each evening, so this position is an important link between our cleaners and management.
We need someone who notices what’s happening around them.
You might identify a cleaning standard that needs attention, a team member who needs additional support, a stock or equipment problem, an unsafe working practice or an issue with site security.
Where you can safely and appropriately resolve a straightforward problem yourself, we’ll trust you to use your initiative and do so while keeping us informed.
Where something requires management involvement, you’ll be expected to recognise this and escalate it appropriately.
We’re looking for someone whose approach is:
“I’ve got this problem. I’m dealing with it by doing this, and I’ll keep you updated.”
Clear Systems & Support
Working independently doesn’t mean being left to work everything out yourself.
You’ll receive an Area Cleaning Support Supervisor Handbook containing guidance and procedures for the role.
Each school also has its own site information, including job plans, cleaning checklists and relevant site-specific procedures.
You’ll receive structured training and ongoing management support.
We want you to use your initiative, but also follow our procedures and recognise when something needs to be escalated.
Company Van & Equipment
A company van and fuel card are provided for authorised business use, and the vehicle can normally be taken home.
The van will carry a selection of approved cleaning supplies, equipment, PPE and operational essentials so you have everyday resources available to help resolve routine issues and support our sites.
You’ll be responsible for keeping the vehicle and equipment organised, reporting items requiring replenishment and looking after company property.
Who Are We Looking For?
Previous management experience isn’t essential.
We would much rather find an experienced, dependable cleaner who is ready for greater responsibility and has the confidence to work independently.
You’ll need to be someone who:
- Has previous professional cleaning experience
- Is reliable and takes attendance seriously
- Takes pride in high cleaning standards
- Notices when something isn’t right
- Remains calm when plans change
- Can organise and prioritise their workload
- Uses initiative and looks for solutions
- Follows established procedures
- Knows when to escalate a problem
- Is willing to get stuck in and help
- Communicates clearly and professionally
- Can accurately record and report information
- Is comfortable supporting other cleaners
- Can use a work phone, apps and digital forms
- Can be trusted with keys, security information, equipment and confidential information
Previous school, commercial cleaning, mobile cleaning, caretaking, keyholding or supervisory experience would be advantageous.

Monday–Friday, 4:00pm–8:00pm
20 guaranteed hours per week
40 working weeks per year
The 4:00pm start time is an important operational requirement of this role.
Some of our largest school cleaning shifts operate from 4:00pm–8:00pm. One of the core purposes of this position is to provide a complete shift of cleaning cover when a team member is absent.
Applicants should therefore be able to work the 4:00pm–8:00pm pattern consistently.
Most sites are within approximately 30 minutes of Trowbridge, although occasional emergency or exceptional cover may require travel of up to approximately one hour.
Travel between sites during your shift forms part of your working time.

Regular travel between school sites is essential.
Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and be eligible to drive under our company motor insurance policy.
Our current company vehicle insurance policy requires drivers of the vehicle provided for this role to be aged 25 or over and have fewer than 6 penalty points on their driving licence.
