Vortex Logistics Ltd is a fast-growing UK transport and logistics company based in Cannock and our operations run out of Rugeley. Due to continued expansion, we are looking for an organised, proactive and customer-focused Transport Planner to join our busy operations team.

The Role
As a Transport Planner, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our transport fleet. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will be responsible for planning vehicle movements, communicating with drivers and customers, and ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and routing company vehicles to maximise efficiency.
- Managing daily transport operations and responding to any issues that arise.
- Communicating with drivers throughout the day and providing operational support.
- Liaising with customers to provide updates and exceptional customer service.
- Booking collections and deliveries while meeting customer requirements.
- Monitoring vehicle progress using transport management and tracking systems.
- Build relationships with new and existing customers, negotiating work and providing competitive haulage quotes.
- Ensuring compliance with driver hours, Working Time Directive and transport legislation.
- Working closely with subcontractors when required.
- Building strong relationships with both customers and suppliers.
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Supporting the wider operations team with general transport administration.
- Providing support in reducing any empty mileage ie return loads etc.
- Liaise with the accounts team regarding completed jobs, customer invoicing and any transport-related queries.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in transport planning or a similar logistics role. Particualy with curtain-sided vehicles
- Confident communicating with customers, drivers and colleagues both over the phone and via email
- Ability to negotiate rates and confidently quote transport jobs.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and make quick decisions.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office - Excel.
- Experience using transport management systems (preferred but not essential).
- A positive attitude and willingness to be part of a growing business.
