Radskills is a trauma informed, non-contact Alternative Provision based in West Yorkshire providing hands-on vocational/ practical skills training to children and young people with barriers to mainstream education. This could be on a short or long term basis either at one of our venues in Hebden Bridge or on school site in the surrounding area within Calderdale.
We are expanding and looking to hire a part time vocational skills tutor/ workshop leader to teach valuable hands-on skills to the new generation of exceptional human beings.
Our current curriculum topics are:
Trades: Plumbing, Tiling, Metal Work, Chair Making, Walling
Creative Arts
Heritage Crafts and Rural Skills
Engineering (structural)
You might be a retired tradesperson wanting a part-time opportunity to pass on their knowledge. A youth worker, craftsman, performer or engineer with hands-on skills and a practical mind who brings with them the passion for hands-on learning and an ability to learn new trades. Or, maybe you're a seasoned vocational skills teacher looking to escape the world of full-time mainstream education.
Radskills work on a 2:1, 1:1 or 1:6 ratio with young people aged 8 to 18. We introduce professional tools and materials through activities which have real world relevance and which are designed to support the young people into meaningful work as young adults.
You will be responsible for learning and delivering the pre-written workshop sessions within the range of skills you feel comfortable with as well as designing and implementing extension tasks or other relevant activities.
Radskills has an ethos of upskilling and our staff benefit from extension opportunities for hands-on personal development and skills training.
Required:
Experience working with young people
Knowledge, understanding and experience of SEND/ SEMH
Physically fit and able to lift and carry kit
Desire to pass on skills to the younger generation
At least two skills that fall within our curriculum offer
Ability to think on your feet and keep your cool in difficult situations order to engage students
