Brown Bird and Company is a design-led campervan conversion business specialising in premium Land Rover Defender, VW Transporter and Mercedes Sprinter conversions.
We build unique, high-quality campervans with exceptional attention to detail, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques. Our order book is currently full until Spring 2027, and due to continued growth we're looking for another skilled team member to join our workshop near Thirsk.
The Role
We are looking for a skilled and detail-focused Cabinet Maker & CNC Technician to join our growing workshop team.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong joinery, cabinet making or carpentry background who takes genuine pride in producing high-quality work. Experience with CNC machinery is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided. However, applicants must be technically minded and comfortable working with digital systems and software.
A significant part of this role involves designing, manufacturing and installing high-end campervan furniture and interior components, as well as carrying out final finishing work including filling, sanding, painting and detailing to an exceptionally high standard.

Key ResponsibilitiesFurniture & Cabinetry Manufacture
- Manufacture campervan furniture and cabinetry from plywood, hardwoods and laminate materials
- Work extensively with oak and other hardwoods to create premium interior features
- Assemble cabinets, storage units, bed systems and interior furniture
- Fit furniture and interior components into campervans
- Ensure all work is completed accurately and to a consistently high standard
- Maintain exceptional standards of craftsmanship throughout every stage of the build
CNC Production & Design
- Design and develop campervan furniture and interior components using CAD and digital design software
- Create, modify and optimise CNC drawings and cutting files
- Operate CNC machinery to manufacture furniture components
- Prepare and process CNC-cut parts for assembly
- Assist with CNC workflows and digital manufacturing processes
- Work with CAD drawings, templates and technical files
- Help improve manufacturing efficiency, accuracy and material utilisation
Finishing & Detailing
- Fill, sand and prepare components for paint and final finishing
- Paint furniture and interior components to a high standard
- Carry out final finishing and detailing work throughout the build process
- Inspect completed work for imperfections and rectify where necessary
- Ensure all finished surfaces meet Brown Bird and Company quality standards
- Take responsibility for achieving a showroom-quality finish
General Workshop Duties
- Read technical drawings and manufacturing information
- Work closely with the design and build teams
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop
- Assist with continuous improvement of workshop processes
- Support other areas of the build where required
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Previous joinery, cabinet making or carpentry experience
- Excellent woodworking skills and understanding of timber-based materials
- Experience working with plywood, hardwoods and laminate materials
- High level of craftsmanship and attention to detail
- Experience using workshop machinery and power tools safely
- Strong practical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Pride in producing high-quality work
- Ability to carry out filling, sanding and finishing work to a professional standard
- Good computer skills and confidence working with digital systems and software
Desirable
- CNC machining experience
- Experience using CAD software to design furniture, cabinetry or interior components
- Furniture manufacturing experience
- Spray painting or furniture finishing experience
- Experience working with oak and other hardwoods
- Previous campervan, caravan, yacht, shopfitting or bespoke furniture experience
