INTERESTED IN BEING A SING IN THE CITY CHOIR LEADER IN MUSSELBURGH, EDINBURGH AREA
Job type – Part Time Self Employed

About Us
Sing in the City, established in 2010, is owned and managed by professional singer–songwriters Kirsty Baird and Annette Hanley (Hanley and The Baird). We currently run 14 community choirs with over 1,000 members. Each choir ranges from 50 to 100 singers, with four based in central Edinburgh and others located in Portobello, Musselburgh, Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Livingston, Linlithgow, Dalgety Bay and South Queensferry. We are also planning to expand into new areas.
We are proud to be ‘more than a choir’. As an organisation we regularly support charities and community causes, raising over £200,000 to date.
Our ethos is to provide a safe, warm and welcoming rehearsal environment for everyone. It is extremely important to us and to our coaching team, that every member feels included, valued and part of something special. Many of our members describe Sing in the City as a life-changing experience.
Job Description
We are offering a freelance position with Sing in the City, based on leading one choir on Wednesday evenings. The role runs from 7:00pm to 9:00pm (including a short break) for 41 weeks per year during our term times, with an annual minimum income of £2,870 (inclusive of travel).
We usually introduce one new song per month. Coaches are encouraged to develop choir tone, movement and performance skills, which all come together in each choir’s annual show. Our performances take place in major venues including the Usher Hall, Festival Theatre, Adam Smith Theatre (Kirkcaldy) and the Alhambra Theatre (Dunfermline). In 2025, Sing in the City was also the choir for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which led to a performance with Skipinnish at the OVO Hydro.
We provide full notation for our own bespoke arrangements of popular songs from the 1960s to the present day, along with individual vocal-track recordings for each section.
