As part of a team, assists in ensuring that lunch times are valuable, social and educational experience for all children and securing the safety and welfare of the children during the midday break. Making sure Environmental Health rules and regulations are adhered to along with Smiles Health and Safety and Safeguarding policy. This is a part time job working 11.15-2pm Monday to Friday.
This position is for all year round, including the school holidays.
Full holiday entitlement is 16.5 days plus the bank holidays, and two week closure for Christmas.
- All positions are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
- Any successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check before employment commences
- All staff are required to have two clear references before employment can commence
KEY PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Midday assistants will:
Promote good social behaviour and eating habits in line with the age and stage of the children.
Organise and support children’s activity time/sleep time once lunch has finished.
Assist with the children’s general hygiene requirements (washing, toileting changing nappies or clothes).
Have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and to follow the child protection procedures adopted by Smiles and the safeguarding board.
Being familiar with Smiles policy for promoting good behaviour and follow the agreed approaches to positive behaviour management.
Support colleagues to manage the smooth running of the lunch hour, Informing the teaching staff if a child is unwilling to eat or becomes unwell.
Helping children to become independent in laying the table, using their cutlery, serving their own food, pouring their own drinks and cutting up their food in line with their age and ability.
Helping children to make good choices and encourage children to try new foods.
Engaging children in conversation about food, healthy foods, personal preferences and foods eaten at home.
Listening to children and helping children to listen to each other.
Being aware of children with allergies or restricted diets for medical reasons and ensure they are not given inappropriate foods.
Teaching social skills and good manners, ensuring safety with knives and folks and helping children to scrape their own plates and tidy/clear up in a satisfactory manner.
Clean up spillages when food is spilt dropped to make sure it doesn’t become a hazard.
Dealing with bodily spillages in accordance with infection control procedures, ensuring the child is properly cared for.
Sharing responsibility with other midday assistance and teaching staff to maintain order and calm.
Regular and thorough cleaning is essential including washing dishes, tables and floors to meet health and safety requirements.
Cleaning and mopping the floors in the rooms.
Wash up the dishes, load the dishwasher and clean the kitchen area ensuring it is of a high standard.
